What is the best way to change the oil in a 9"? I dont think there is a drain plug anywhere. What is the best oil to use?

you need a suction gun. then just refill with a 75w140 gl4 or gl5 oil. i picked up a gallon for 7.00 you will need 3.5 quarts.

you could also pull the axles out a little bit undo the 3rd member and pull it back some and let it drain. dont try to pull it off by your self (atleast use a jack) as it is heavy as crap. clean the mating surface and use RTV and bolt everything back up.

if you are going to do all that work might as well just pull the entire third member and install a new gasket. the third member is only about 70 lbs.

70 lbs still aint fun to be messin with under a truck, plus if you do pull it u can check it for wear in it.

no its not fun but doable. i also replaced the leaking pinion seal while i was doing it. you can also add a drain plug like i did. i drill a 3/8'' hole on the bottom and welded a 1/2'' nut over it and used a stubby bolt inside of it. it works well and i just sealed it with teflon tape.

If you suck it out, make sure you drive the truck on the highway and get the rear end warm. It makes it easier to suck out.
