The "best kind of oil" arguments can rage for months. In general the factory specification was 5 quarts of 10W-30. Add one more quart when changing the oil filter. There are plenty of threads of using synthetic versus dino-oil and using higher or lower viscosity.
I have always used 10W-30 in all of my OBS Fords. I favor synthetics but dino-oil works fine at regular oil change intervals.
First, I would ask you what kind of oil have you been using in it? Conventional, Semi Synthetic or Full Synthetic? Then I would ask what is the mileage on the engine?
I'm not an expert but this is what I believe.
See if you have a lot of miles on your motor and only been using regular conventional oil in it the groove pattern from the Crude oil will be larger then the Full Synthetic oil.
If you switch to a full synthetic oil you will see less oil pressure and eventually a faster worn out motor. It will not happen over night. Full synthetic oil in my opinion is only good for engines that have only been running full synthetic in them...
A semi synthetic high mileage oil would be the best in my opinion if you have over 75,000 miles on the engine. The oil will help keep the seals moist and has additives in it that will slow down engine wear in high mileage engines. 10w30
If you have knocks or clatters go with a thicker weight of oil to help fill the gap wear. 10w40 or 20w50. If that don't help you have serious problems.
