i'm a pyro at heart and i was just wondering if anyone in here has set their old beasts up to shoot flames out the exhaust, i would like to do that w/my 78, if anyone in here has done it i was wondering how to do it, i want to do it. thanx in advance
hehe, I bought my '71 WITH flames already on the pipes.. My only comments are one- its bad ##### two- it is illegal, at least in california and three- its really really hard on your engine. The backpressure is a real problem and here is how to do it if you want to blow exhaust gaskets and put that much stress on your engine. one drill a hole in the end of your tail pipes, put a highheat plug in them, run a switch off the battery directly to your cab and then to a high energy coil. THEN play with your carb settings till you are runng as rich as possible. Then rev the engine to load up the tail-pipes with excess unburnt fuel and hit the switch and you'll get short shot of flame. The unfortunate part is the plugs get carbonized really fast so about every 50 miles of driving the plugs need to be cleaned.
There is an option two!
headers + massive long duration cam and a circle-trak setup engine and stand on it then let off the gas real fast aaaaannnndddd just like i see at the track every friday in watsonville speedway! you get lots a flames and sometimes they take a bit of effort to get em to go out!!! haha that should satisfy your pyro-senses but if you torch your truck its your ##### not mine fire-boy.
-as my wife always says: I just cant trust a man who drives a chevy.
[font color=red size=2]In the hot rod magazines, they have cars with flame thrower exhaust on them. They have propane in an on-board bottle which is piped into the very end of the exhaust pipe and an ignitor that starts the flame. Then you end up with a constant blue flame, like a torch. These are outlawed in most states (I wonder why...).

OH the stories I could tell, like getting arrested for them and other assorted tales. I've got flamethrowers on my 77 4X4, and before anyone starts on me, one I know they're illegal, two I know they serve no purpose but god its awesome watching 35 foot of fire rolling out of your tailpipes, not to mention it'll make a tailgater back off really fast.
I started out with regular flamethrowers, you know 'bout 18 or 20 inchs of fire....not good enough.......plumbed in propane, 6-8 feet of fire.....not good enough.......plumbed in kerosene with 135 lbs. of air pressure pushing it.....35 feet feel the adrenalin rush starting just thinking about it. Course the rush didnt help when they shut the cell bars but it is still cool. And yes I know I'm riding around with a bomb in the back of my truck!!! When I get the truck back on the road, Added another 10 inchs of lift and 44 boggers (ain't it just sad that some people are never satisfied?) I'll scan in some pics and put them on a website. Before you call me a lier I've got plenty of witnesses, including a few law enforcement officers. Seriously make sure you are on private property with permission of the owner before you lite them off, cause they will arrest you. Whit
Oh yeah, forgot, go to pyrocars.com and follow the links you can get the regular kit 18-20 inchs for about 50 bucks....the rest you have to build yourself. Whit
well i have been looking into flames for my 69 f-250. there are a couple companies that make pretty good setups. one is made by hot rods of norco (www.hotrodsofnorco.com) and it's set up is so it bypasses the engine coil through their distributing box to 2 coils to spark plugs in the pipes. all pretty easy. rod and custom have an article on an install on a car. www.rodandcustommagazine.com look under car tech/tech articles/tossin' fire. there si another company that makes a kit for less. but i dont' know their address as i am posting from my parents house.
