I posted this Q in the 73-79 forum but hasnt done alot for me, so ill try er out here.
Just wondering what your opinions are on either the Borgeson or the Flaming River. Ive been planning on going with the borgeson, but im now undecided.
lemme know which is a better pick or if its not much of a difference. It doesnt seem like to much, the flaming one is i think about 20$ more.
cheers
borgeson has been around awhile now and i think is a good product.i have two of there shafts, one in my 77 f150, another in my 82 cj. both are used hard off-road, and haven't had any problems yet. had both for a couple years now.
sorry i have not experiance with the other brand so i can't help you there, just that i don't think you will be disapointed with borgeson at all. but the other one looks like a quality unit also. so maybe you should give them a try and let us know how they compair. good luck.
Right on thanks for the tip,
I ll let ya know which one i pick, might be a while yet Seems everyone wants a credit card, and i dont have one.
I cant seem to find one when i look around town,
I was gonna buy it from summit if i can find a card.
Everyone looks at me like im retarded when i ask about it, i even brought a picture in of it one time, also when i ask about ctm u joints, theyre like wha???
cheers
I put a Borgeson on my 79 F250 and took it right back off. I didn't like it. It felt spooky ,pushy, like it was made of rubber. I put the factory one back on.The truck steered fine before I put it on. But I put a body lift on and I didn't like the angle the factory one was on. Maby it would have been alright with smaller tires, 39.5 swampers are a heavy, wide tire. My opinion is its a wimpy shaft and it wasted my time.
Awesome, thanks for your experience man,
I also have a 3in body lift and am runnin 35's right now but I am buying some bigger meats as soon as i can get a ride.
THey make you think by what they advertise they are good for this kind of application, which is why I was gonna go with them.
What are you using now Mark A?? The stock one still?
Yes. I have a cupple more good ones laying around im going to stick with them I knock off the factory U joint and use a spicer U joint & yokes. The slip yoke at the box is on a extreme angle though. But it hasn't wore out yet.
Oh yeah, nice to have a few spares tho eh.
I am still using the shaft with the rag-joint on there, which i am not a big fan of, i broke one last summer and found another one to replace it, but the whole thing is lose from the u joint near the firewall to where the shaft comes outa that cylinder type like thing from the firewall (proper name I dont know)
But id like a safer setup before i drive the 1400km's back home for summer , ya know.
I put a borgeson in and love it, my truck has never had such a tight steering feel to it as long as I have owned it, my only gripe is it was unfinished and has a nice coat of rust on it cuz i wasnt thinking when i slapped it in, not a big problem though, it matches the rest of my truck!!

dearborn classics has a polyurethane rag-joint (steering coupler) for $25.00. tel. # 1-800-252-7427. part # STC100. It might be worth saving $225.00 over the borgeson shaft.
I did a search and found this thread. Does anyone else have an opinion? Im thinkin about getting a Flaming River shaft. It would be nice to know of anyones experience with those.
