The day before thanksgiving, someone stole my system. They seemed to have just pryed the plastic door handle open, and then unlocked it rather easily. Only the door handle was damaged. This was in Austin tx.
Fast forward to 3 days ago in Dallas TX.
They did the same damn thing to the other door (i hadn't fixed the previous damage yet) and stole my luggage (nice) and all my work stuff (including laptop). Surprisingly, new deck is left alone!
So, does anyone make high security door handles, and if not, where can i source some OEM for a decent price? I think i'll be installing an alarm.
man that feeling sucks. sorry for all your losses. i am in a different situation though. last week someone in my third mod class stole my truck keys out of my coat pocket on my chair. an even worse feeling, because he has my truck keys, and my house key too.
Damn, sorry to hear about your bad luck. WHen I got my truck, I broke down and got a Viper alarm. I got a deal on it (friends) but it was still $150 installed. They can still get in the truck and steal whatever is there, but they are not gonna take the truck! No matter what you do, if you leave things like that in plain site, you are taking a big risk!! At least get a LOUD alaram. Even if you change the handles, nothing is gonna stop them from breaking a window and doing a grab and run....
I hate f**king theives...... even if it is robin hood......
AWSOME! but what exactly makes them theft deterent?

Very sorry to here that. Had mine broken into twice in the last year. Also broke into through the door handle.
First time was through the driver door. Got A-pillar gauges, Superchips tuner, and CD player. After that, installed python alarm and jimmi jammers. Dec. 27, '05 they broke into the passenger side. All they got this time was a Lowes gift card I got for Christmas, and a wallet that had some certifications for work. I think my alarm went off after they got in, so they couldn't completely go through my truck. I think the jimmi jammers slowed them down, but they still got in.
I ordered the theft-deterrent handles, from DPPI, that were mentioned in the earlier reply. I was told that the passenger side has not hole for the lock cylinder. Both handles have some device to keep someone from using a SLIM JIM type tool to unlock the doors. I don't have the handles yet, so I don't know what the deterrent is. Call Mark at DPPI for more info.
Another option is getting rear CrewCab handles. They have no hole for lock cylinder. So you loose your ability to use your key. Only be able to use keyless entry fob.
I already ordered them. I need replacements, and for 90 dollars i figure it's cheaper than OEM probably. I'm going to be searching ebay for a VIPER alarm myself.... I figure i've already had my run of bad luck with these things. When i get the handles i'm going to try and reinforce them with several layers of fiberglass on the back... make them a bit stronger!~

Never got around to pricing the OEM ones. Going to try the DPPI ones out. If they don't work, then i'll go to OEM CrewCab ones. I also try to keep anything with personal info ie; banking info, home address, SS#, etc. I'm also going to check into some extra sensors for my alarm.
hanklin,
I think you can get a new fob programed to your truck. I heard you can get them off ebay. Don't know how that works. I'm sure somebody on this site has done it.
Yes, you can order them off ebay and they are not that expensive. I bought my '03 used and it came with just one keyfob. I ordered another one from keylessremotesforless on ebay. It works great... I think it was around $25 including shipping.
depends where you are at in tx. the bigger cities are horrible, and where i live isnt much better at all. Thats why have have an alarm (wired to my toolbox as well) and a kill switch. I try not to leave anything inside the truck to entice a would be crook. Hell, I have walked out to the parking lot and caught guys looking in my windows....

Another source for fobs is keylessride.com I bought some there for $35 each, brand new. They also provide instructions. Basically this. Get in the truck with the door closed. Turn the key off-on 8 times ending in the on position. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm mode. You can then add 4 fobs. Each will lock/unlock the doors to confirm programming. Press the buttons one at a time. There is a posting on this and all other sorts of trickery on this site. Look in the tech section. It was under a 150, but most fords are the same. Applied to my 02 250, 00 taurus SE, 04 F150, 00 Explorer, 02 taurus SES and counting.
Had my truck "attempted theft" a week ago.Got up for work and saw the damage at4:45 am.They knocked in the drivers cylinder sothey could grab the arm with pliers and unlock the door.also used a screwdriver to pry under the door handle..don't know why. When that didn't work, they took a spark plug to the rear door window but the tint held it together.I figure they'll be back.Worst part was the same thing happened to the cop that came to write the report.
I repaced the front handles with rears and did away with the keyholes.Did that just after the viper alarm was installed by an old friend. He pulled the radio out and installed the alarm just under the dash up on the firewall.took him two days and he was excited about his own work so i'm happy.Bonus was the remote start that the alarm comes with.I'll still do the jimmi jammers all around as soon as possible.
