Well I took a quick look today and it apears it is in the diff. Looks like im kinda up the crick. I talked to the local ford shop and of course the looked at me like an idiot. They did say possibly there is a block off plate in my tranny were the speed sensor would have been if I had a nine inch and I could possibly make use of that or the same situation on the transfer case. Any one know anything about that? I dont even know what tranny or transfer case I have. It does not have the grandpa push button 4x4 that some of my models have it does have a shifter.

You've got a Borg Warner 1356 transfer case.

check on the output shaft of th t-case. my diesel has a 1356 case in it, and the speedo is on the top of the output.

Wiseguy, 92-96 F150/bronco's (don't know for sure on 3/4-1ton) use the VSS in the differential to operate the speedo, tranny (E4OD & 4R70W), odometer, and anti-lock brakes), PSOM. You cannot run the VSS off the transfer case and still retain your PSOM, signals are different. So, you have to find a way to mimic this. I happen to be planning the same thing later on this spring/summer, throwing in a 9" to replace my 8.8 in my 94.

Do you have a fixed yoke at the transfer case? If so, you could have a machine shop machine you a "cog" with little teeth sticking out exactly like the VSS toner ring that goes around the carrier in your 8.8. Make the ID the same as the OD of the yoke on the T-case, heat it up so it expands then slide it into place, cool it and its not gonna come off. Then you simply have to fab up a bracket to bolt the VSS sensor (the thing with wires on top of your diff) so that the VSS sensor can read the teeth and put out an electrical signal. You will still have to recalibrate your PSOM in the dash as somebody in this thread already mentioned, and that is not hard. You will have to find the instructions, I'm not sure if I have them at the moment.

If you have a slip yoke on the T-case end like I do, then you have three other options. You can mount at the pinion yoke which is closer to the ground and could be contaminated easier, outboard at the wheel which is even harder to protect, or you could have the carrier machined to accept the 8.8 toner ring, and drill a hole in the top of the diff so that the 9" will accept the VSS. This is the best solution of all, but it will cost some money.

I know a guy on another forum who has said he could make me the toothed ring to slip on the yoke, so if you can't find anybody I could get ahold of him for you. Let me find some links on this that I have dug up.

http://chuckstrucks.net/fordvss6.jpg...3Doff%26sa%3DN - this shows how somebody did the VSS relocation on a 2.5-ton Rockwell swap.

http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/show...curt+leduc+vss - this shows a thread dealing with VSS relocation. Alot of jibber jabber, but some good tech none-the-less.

Remember, the problem is that he will lose the PSOM unless the VSS is hooked up, that means speedo, odometer, cruise, etc. He could regain the speedo with the t-case port, but thats it.

Dont the new F-150's have a 9.25 in them. I would imagine its a good axel. Probably a good upgrade from the 8.8 and plenty for me. If it has the same sytem in it it could be an easy swap does any one know anything about this axel?

Not sure. Remember the new axle (I thought it was 9.75, either way) is also 5x135mm bolt pattern so you will have mismatching bolt patterns on your wheels. Plus, I think that availability of lockers is lower with that axle because not alot of people with those newer F150's need or want locking mechanisms in them. I think aftermarket for them is more limited and costs more, but I haven't looked around for parts for them. The biggest thing is the difference in bolt pattern.
