Well in probably a few weeks im going to order my new 4.56s and LS clutch pack to install in my truck.. but i need to figure out how to correct my speedo.
Some say that the early F-150s(97-98) you have to change out the speedo gear to fix the speedo.. and the newer ones you correct by the computer. Is this true? So in my case i need to order a different speedo gear?
BTW- I have the E4OD
I have a 1998 F150 5.4 with a E4OD and I just had a 4.10 Auburn rear diff installed. The shop that installed the rear diff has had quite a hard time tracking the proper gear down. Apparently ford never made one because a 4.10 was never an option. If you find one could you let me know where it came from.
They have them you just can't ask for a gear for 4.10 gears because they will have no idea. From memory 3.55's come with a 19 tooth and Ford makes them up to 21 or 23 something like that. Search VSS gear teeth or something to that effect and some threads should come up. This has been discussed before I am sure.
Thanks. I'm pretty sure the shop has been looking for a 23 tooth gear. They have been having problems getting one that fits the E4OD. This gear goes in the rear of the transmision.
To slow down your speedometer you need to use a driven speedo gear that has more
teeth on it than the one that is now in your transmission. More teeth will slow down the
rotation of the speedo cable or vss shaft which will slow lower the indicated speed on your speedometer. Dan.
