Sorry, I can't rebutt. I don't shop there either. I'm a dying breed that will not conform because I respect my fellow American worker and their quility too much. I retired from the building of homes bought by the American worker. Shopping for me isn't easy and is restricted mostly to the used American made products at flea markets. The younger generation may be content with the "use it once then throw it away" idea but I will never conform. ...Never..

Well I can totally respect you for who you are. Most people will cry how horrible WM is and then go to all the other major retailers like there's any difference. Good luck, staying all American these days isn't easy.

Maybe our "lowest common denominator" is higher than yours because I don't see "scum" when I enter our bright, clean Walmart
No doubt it must be... ours is not bright or clean, I'll snap some pics if I ever head over there again. As far as the sex registry comment, I think there's something wrong when old grizzled greasy guys are gawking at preteens dressed like street walkers

Now the WM in my college town, Great employees, very kept up, nice country folk customers

I used to work at Wal-Mart for about 7 months. Since it was 3rd shift, I was there when they received stuff and I knew how much overstock they have and how they did financially during the day. And was really surprised how successful they are since their organization SUCKS.
They would have a lot of stuff overstock in the back, but they would keep ordering more and more of the stuff they already have. Its little crazy around new year and there is so much overstock in the back, you can't even walk in there. However, they would keep ordering 3 trucks/night and you were stuck with a lot of overstock, without having place to put it.
Wal-Mart - never again.

Walmart does a lot of consignments now. If they are overstocked it is only affecting your travel to the break room. They don't pay for the stuff until after it is sold.

Typically 120-180 days which puts financial hardships on their vendors

We have a walmart within a mile of us. First of all we are not low lives. It is a regular Wal Mart not a Super. It is one of the smallest Wal-Marts in the southeast. I love shopping their, but I don't buy there clothes.

Walmart IMO is Exhibit 'A' of the social and economic direction this country is heading towards.

'My job does not pay well, I therefore must shop at Walmart'

Does anybody else see the paradox in this statement???

Quite simply folks; A big part of the reason that many of the jobs here in the US do not pay well anymore, is because of companies like Walmart.

Walmart is systematically dismantling the competitive retail market as we know it. Eventually, they will be the ONE.

You need not believe me, as I'm nobody. You can read or watch about it yourself here Executive Intelligence Review or here PBS Frontline.

I am not a xenophobe, people.....only concerned for my fellow Americans and their pursuit of the American dream (which is slowly slipping away).

OMG, blaming Wal-Mart for difficulties in life is just flat out weak. This is the real problem with today, people want to blame others for their own problems. If the American dream is unreachable then there's only one person to blame, yourself. What a sickening thing to hear.

I disagree somewhat.

I have to believe that no matter how hard one works to achieve their goals there is always a higher power that could thwart those goals.

The USA & Canada will one day become service oriented countries.

All manufacturing will be done in countries where labour costs are nominal.

IT appears SOME Canadian & American workers have caused this by wanting more as Manufacturing companies NEEDED more to operate.

These days....it is by mere luck that the price of certain commodities have skyrocketed allowing for energy related employess to do well financially yet,not other industries to capitalize but to go under from out-sourcing.

If people in the US & Canada so desire Mainland industry to survive, why did employees in some industries put a gun to the head's of companies looking for a larger share of the profit ?

They too were looking for the American dream and lost because of it

Now Dennis, don't go blaming unions though they do share the blame. Walmart is digging its own grave. No not because of low wages or lack of health care benefits but because they have srunk there supplier base.

80% of all Walmart goods are now produced in China. Over the next decade China will have the fastest growing economy in the world as weel as the fastest grow in standard of living. What is cheap today will not be tomorrow. Other companies that are not so tightly coupled to China will not have these price fluctuations as there product line is more diversified. 10 years from now I forsee Walmart not even a plaer in the field. They have pissed to many people off.

When Walmart was under Sam there claim to fame was that they stocked mostly American made products. There is no doubt that from a business point of view they are succesful today. But I bet Sam is rolling over in his grave.
