Its not a service based economy, not in manafacturing.
Its all price now...... as far as service and quality thats not as imporant as it once was.
I work at a small company supplying all sorts of parts from auto to medical. http://www.robertsautomatic.com/
Its price first you cant make the price a new supplyer will be found.
The only way we hang around is ordnance "stuff that blows up !" for uncle sam.
Most of the easy stuff left for china 4 years ago.
The best thing about walmart being so busy, you can go to Kmart and not fight crowds...yes, they do have all kinds of stuff that most stores dont carry, and low prices, but the quality is low too. Then there is customer service...which DOES NOT EXSIST @ walmarts....
I miss the days when I could handle two girls....
Oh, oops, sorry. I get it. I forgot about two guy's department store. Times sure have changed haven't they?
it's quickly becoming one. example there are a few distributers of hardwood flooring in chicago land, I can guarentee that we do not have the lowest price on alot of products, but we get ALOT of business because of our service, where as the the other dist's could care less if someone needs a speecialty product, or a delivery the next day
Think about it, People pay for service
I'm not sure how you can stake that claim when Right on the webpage for the co. you work for, it states: The Difference is our Attitude

The last 3 out of four years we have lost money, last year it was over $ 200,000
We have gone from a full work force of close to 200 people down to 64.
I go to a lot of the mpma meetings http://www.mpma.com/
And watched as fellow members went out of business.
Right now we are just making it.......for how long I couldnt tell you.
If it goes under I guess I will get a job at wallmart and use minnesota care for health ins
We push EVERY thing to the wall we are 98 % on time and quality is #1.
But we have lost ALOT of work on price.
Heres just one exp.
We have made parts for this company for over 18 years. http://www.outers-guncare.com/default.aspx
Lost most of the work on price we still do some but not close to what it once was.
The parts for these kits are now made in China.
You can find these kits at Walmart.
from the sites faq http://www.outers-guncare.com/general/FAQ.aspx Q: Where can I purchase your products? A: Our products are sold through distributors and catalog companies as well as some discount stores such as Wal-Mart.
I dont want to sound like a jerk jake00.
But this is real not just some claim to make a point.
I live it every day.
Shares of Ford Truck Enthusiasts traded up slightly today, on news that the company is moving much of its operation to Asia. A notice was posted today on their website indicating that effective August 1st, much of its U.S. based operation would be operating out of India and China. In a press conference, President and CEO of FTE, Ken Payne had this to say.
"Today marks a great day in the history of FTE. Today we are making many improvements to our operation that will increase our efficiency, and also increase our value to our shareholders. On August 1st, we will be moving most of our retail division, Motorhaven, to Xian Liu, China. Most of our products are manufactured there, and by consolidating our sales team with the manufacturing, we will be able to reduce operating costs significantly. We will retain a skeleton warehouse in the U.S., mainly to handle returns. All phone and internet sales will actually take place in China, though we doubt our customers will notice any appreciable difference in service quality.
Also, our website, ford-trucks.com, will be operating on a server farm in Bangalore, India. We will continue to be the premier Ford specific web site. As a bonus, we wil be reducing the cost of our subscription service from $15 annually, to $13. We know our subscribers will appreciate this change."
When asked what would happen to the long time employees that FTE has, such as Torque1st and FTE Jason, Ken had this to say:
"While we appreciate the dedication and service that the FTE team has provided over the years, the employees should have seen this coming. Sitting at a computer all day moderating forums and running the website is a skill that we can utilize from anywhere in the world these days. I wish the former FTE staff success in whatever endeavors they pursue in their new careers. Our subscribers should welcome our new moderators, Rajah and Tumal!"
When asked if the rumors were true that the former FTE employees made an average of $18.50 per hour, while their replacements would be paid $5 and 10 pounds of rice per week, Ken had this to say:
and thats how we survive in our service based economy
Some people still care about service. If that were the primary focus, we'd not have seen most travel agencies shut down, ATM's be so popular, and low price retailers be the king.
Long story short, think about what you buy beyond your immediate need. Think about where that dollar is going. Is it staying in the community (local or national), or is it funding a foreign intellegence agency's equipment budget. Sure, Wal-Mart is not the only company that is guilty, but it is the biggest and that makes it a target, probably to the dismay (or not) of a similarly named competitor.
Just my $0.02
I tend to agree with the economist on this site like snake and some others...But to say this is well wrong to be honest...Black when you spend your money at wal mart, your payin those people salary pretty much...they in turn spend there money eatin out, buyin goods, gettin there cars fixed in other words life...that goes into your local economy...Ok before anyone makes another arguement like this hold on...Now say China since everyone seems to be targeting them takes all the money from wal mart it makes in your local town...Now China has all this american money, where do you spend american money? In America...The world is a closed market system the money just doesnt dissapear into nothing...its all comes full circle again...They buy american products or reinvest it into America...Japan owns some 5 trillion of our debt...thats just an example of how this all works..they get american money and reinvest it into america.
Wal-Mart employes part time workers avoiding having to pay benefits. It moves into a town and by undercutting everyones prices eventually puts most small business out of business. They can do this because of their slave labor practices in their manufacturing facilities in China. American people wind up buying from Wal-Mart because no one can beat their prices and we don't have the money we use to because all of are manufacturing jobs are being sent to China. George Bush created 200,000 job's last year but unfortunately they are overseas, which is one long commute to work. In the next five or ten years you are going to see all manufacturing jobs gone from this country and replaced by "service jobs" paying minimum wage. I fail to see how this can possibly be good for our Country. NAFTA was our downfall and we are about to hit rock bottom so grab your rear and get ready to land.
I totally agree with akamd65, there is just no way one can match their prices, and yes it is very sad to see all our jobs going overseas, are government is fouled up.
