I have a 2003 6.0 liter Diesel Ford Excursion (Eddie Bauer) and I need to know if there is a place inside the vehicle to get the Factory code for the keypad. I have looked behind the spare tire but am not sure what number to use. The numbers I have tried do not work.
Im trying to save the 95 bucks that the local dealership is going to charge me to hook it up to a computer.
Sorry, I'm sure this has been asked before but I have searched for 2 hours and can't find the answer.
On the F150 there is a control box under the dash above the brake pedal. It has a sticker on it with the factory code. It was a bit of a squeeze to look under there and a flashlight helps. Hope that helps...don't know if the Excursion is the same, but it's worth a shot.
I remember posts about two weks ago, that there is a module accesable by removing the ash tray or cup holder under dash, look up into opening and read number off module. My dealer read it for free using computer scaner, but I had just bought the truck. The factory card in the owners manual was missing (one year old).
I just had mine read at the dealer, I was getting a second key programmed so they included the code for no extra charge (normally $41). I tried several spots under the dash, behind kick panels, and in the rear A/C area and no luck, the tech guy even looked under the dash and couldn't find it. My research here shows that only a few vehicles have the code written under the dash on the module behind the radio, I found removing the radio on my 2000 X gives me a straight shot view of this module, of course mine didn't have the code on it! Good luck
My 2002 had to be hooked up to the computer and the download took near an hour. They said that was the only way to get the code. They showed me where it was on an Explorer while I was waiting, but said that Excursions did not have it anywhere other than in the computer programming.
They did this when I bought it used and the Used car side of the dealership took the cost hit from service. I had a good salesman that was backing me up because I saw him arguing with the service rep on who was going to pay for it.

It must depend on the service department. My dealer took about 3 min. to read out my code. Sure was good you did not have to pay for it.
Took less than 2 minutes on mine. Luckily a friend is the shop manager at a Ford dealer so it cost me nothing. Another dealer in town wanted $60ish to do it
I have really seen it and made it work. For F250-F550 and Excursion code is on computer pack. Remove Fuse Panel. With flashlight shine underneath dash near accellerator. Look to find many wires (2 harnesses worth) that come up to a cream/white/gray or black box about 6+ inches accross. (These harnesses are quite substantial and come to an end right in the bottom of the box in question.) It is hard to see as you will be looking through many other wires and stuff. The box is the computer and is attached to the firewall area about 3-5 inches below (the Radio) and about 2-3 inches toward the driver's side of the vehicle (from the Radio). I had to push some sound insulation (my truck is a diesel...this white insulation stuff may not be on all models) out of the way a bit and looked around for several minutes to see it....but there it was......numbers upside down in this case....but it was there. There were several numbers and other nominclature on the white sticker...but there was a five digit number larger than all the rest...and it worked first time input it. I had searched for days on the net to find a description of where to find this....and none were very helpful. Your dealer can plug-in with diagnostics and tell you too....most charge for it.....if you have a little patience and work your flashlight and the angle from which you look....you can find it yourself....it is a bit tricky...but don't give up the first time.... ( In my case I did have to peal a piece of what looked like standard masking tape off the numbers.....kind of odd.... it was an 05 Excursion ....) (Seeing it at just the proper angle took some trying...and seemed impossible at first...but I encourage you that it can be done without tearing anything apart at all.....)
