The thread I had read just mentioned that to keep the tailgate up, he used a couple of 2x4s to prop the gate open. Then, I had been confused by how to open that little spring that clips onto the truck. I don't recall if it went into more detail about the Aerostar, but I will try and find it.
You're fine Zip, they should be very stiff. There may be a clip on either end that keeps them on the ball joint (squeeze type) or sometimes is a matter of prying them off and tapping the new ones on. Good luck.
Mine are just starting to get weak at 104k and I've quite often thought the gate was too low. Seeing that I could 2wd shocks to raise it is great. Thanks guys!
