muffler for V10

Ok guys, I've been around a long time and have read plenty of posts on this topic. I had a Borla cat-back on my 99 for over 130,000 miles and had 0 issues with it. It had a mellow "roar" that I liked. Borla isn't making anything yet for the new 3V V10 so I'm getting tired of waiting and frankly don't want to spend the $$. My plan is to just swap the stock muffler for an aftermarket muffler. So how about a quick roll call on V10 mufflers? Brand, type of tailpipe(single or duals) and how do you think it sounds(raspy, roar, rumbly etc) Believe me I know the V10 will never sound like a V8. So what says you all?

I'm having a Flowmaster Super 40 3" in and dual 2.5" out installed tomorrow. Also having the new 'y' pipe made.

I am running the Banks muffler and it is too quiet for my tastes. In fact, to me it sounds barely louder than stock. I'm having a hard time deciding which Flowmaster I want, the 50 or 70 series......

I will go with the FM 50 next time. I mistakenly put on a straight thru muffler. It does have some tones I really like. But the droning at 60-70 mph drowns out even MY stereo, and it will make my ears bleed. It's not just volume of sound, it's tonal quality that us V10'ers have to consider also.

I'm just running the banks muffler. In hindsight I should have purchased the banks power pack instead of just the stinger system. Maybe I will purchase the headers by themselves at a later date. After hearing some of the feedback in this thread, I think I will be going with a FM 50 because I am led to believe the FM 70 won't be much louder than the banks muffler. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I think you are going in the right direction...away from the FM 70. The FM 70 is just louder than stock...but not by much. Actually, that is the muffler I am going with when I replace my exhaust. I do not require a loud exhaust system, but like the throat sound from the FlowMaster at open throttle.

Going with the FM 50...will give you more sound.

I have the FM70 and just driving around there is just a little difference from stock. Where I notice it is at idle, with that deep FM rumble, and when I really open it up. I was going through the tunnel on K St. in DC last week and opened it up, it was louder than I thought out the back. I tow a TT with my family so I don't really want any extra interior noise...The 70 is perfect for me.

I've been trolling the exhaust and muffler threads for quite some time now. I've got an 05' 3 valve harley truck. I'm looking for the right exhaust combination to create some exhaust tone. I don't want the in cab drone or raspyness of a ricer. I've been considering doing a FM muffler swap. I want to keep the large chrome exhaust tip that comes with the Harley and don't see any advantage with a larger cat back single pipe or duals. That's why I'm only going to do the muffler. Also, I did just the muffler on my 01' Screw and it sounded good. I know the V-10 won't sound like the 5.4 did.

Does anyone know if the 99'-04' V-10 exhaust (cat back) is the same diameter as the 05'-06'?

I have the flowmaster series 40 and a custom dual outlet that comes out under the rear bumper. Sounds amazing.
