I am curious why an experienced poster such as f150ford would create a thread like this. The opening question alone lends itself to volatile postings .
Oh well, to answer the question...No. Nor have the other 20+ 6.0 owners I personally know ever been left stranded either.
I kind have to agree - this sounds like something I'd start!
But I'm not gonna say anything to bad cause the only person I know of that was stranded by a diesel motor had a Chevy with a 6.5 in it :-)
17,500 miles and no engine problems. Completely stock, truck runs great.
Two check engine lights in the past 15 months.
First time system reported the low fuel sensor was not responding. Low fuel sensor in the fuel tank had to be replaced.
Second time system reported a problem with remote start. My truck does not have remote start installed. I was told Ford is aware of this bogus problem, some sort of computer glitch.
Accelerating to hwy speed (55) when engine just shut down. Got towed to local dealer. They said high pressure oil pump went out but after 3 days of trying to get fuel pressure they found out injector came apart and wound up in low pressure oil pump cutting 1/8" wide by 3/32" deep gouge in low pressure oil pump impeller. They say this caused no oil to be pumped to high pressure oil pump to activate injectors. Wow! You would think there would be a sump screen or something to stop this from happening. My knowledge of the 6.0 PSD is very limited so I guess I have to believe them.
Sorry to hear about your bit of bad luck. I wonder just how many injectors have come apart or lost parts of themselves in the engine components. If this is a high occurance of failures you would think that Ford would make a modification or do something to prevent further damages. So far my 6.0 after the cut O-ring on Christmas Eve was repaired, I have been ok. No oil leaks either after being in the shop. Ford dealer thinks that the 0-ring on my 6.0 was damaged at the factory during the install. Ford should have never had International make them a new design for a diesel. The old 7.3 was so refined in its later years and a solid reliable work horse. I'm also sure that Ford could have done a few factory mods to increase its performance to run with the 6.0.
2004 E450 38000 problematic milesstranded too many times to count -5 heater cores, blown off turbo hose
"E450 Cutaway STRANDED LOTS"
I think we hit the nail on the head with the word "cutaway" or "incomplete vehicle". While the 2004 had a problem with the turbo hose clamps which HAS a fix, your HEATER CORE problem sounds like there is a possibility the upfitter that finished your truck could have done a lousy job. The engine runs, right? What kind of cutaway do you have? Passenger bus? Cargo van? RV? It could make a difference if they ran additional heater cores to heat the passenger cabin and botched the job.

Truck has Unicell fiberglass body - no mods to ford original factory heat system - no rear heat. There is a TSB on these heater cores - has not worked for me yet. Last "FIX " was to add a ground wire to my heater core !
Can't blame the upfitter for any of this .
No, mine has never left me stranded. Reading some posts on this and other forums you would think every other tow truck would have a 6.0 PSD on the "hook". I have never seen a 6.0 on the "hook". I must be blind, not in the right place at the right time, or the 6.0's are not as bad as some would lead you to believe.
U R right airp...most all newer Ford tow trucks from downtown LA to the Ocean are the 6.0, and I have noticed that the LA UPS trucks are using them now too.
