Thanks,
The logging is triggered internally, and the information is saved on the crash module processor and transferred over ISO bus to the PCM for backup. It will save about 10 freezeframes, so ~ .5 seconds of data is stored. Erasing the information without simply destroying both boxes involves locating the data on-module over the 9141 network with a hardware interface (such as a CarDAQ from Drewtech or a Gryphon from DGTech.) The information which is backed up in the PCM can simply be cleared by flash erase and loss of VREF power.

There is one method of modifying the circuit internally (I discovered this after this thread got me interested) to self-erase upon trigger of the inertial sensor, thereby preventing any data storage, but the details are something I don't feel comfortable posting on a publically viewable forum.

I understand it fully.....

What Matt is saying is that the common person can not change, adapt or modify the "black box" that is inlcuded in our trucks. Unless one is a Ford engineer or someone like Matt that "really understands this stuff"... we all just have to live with it.....

That's how I understaood his post.

Thanks Matt.

Not really - if the "common person" happens to have some electronic or computer experience, and is willing to spend some money, all things are possible .......................
