I've been looking into upgrading my 23 year old 5 1/4 pioneer front speakers to go with my decent rear 6x9's.
Being partial to Alpine components, the speaker that I have found that looks good to me is the SPR-135A 5 1/4 component speaker. I don't want to put in 6 1/2, as cutting up the door looks to be required. Am I right?
Peak - 180W
RMS - 50W
Freq Response - 40hz-35Khz
As well, I am looking into adding an amp to improve sound quality and power. I've looked into the Alpine V-power MRP-F200.
Max Power - 75W x 4 (4 ohms)
RMS Power - 40W x 4 (4 ohms)@ 14.4v
- 50W x 4 (2 ohms)@ 14.4v
Are these components going to work well and produce good quality sound?
Note- I have an Alpine 7827 25W MAX cd player and the rear Sony 6x9's are 140W/40W 3 ways.
Any opinions, insights? More info needed?
Thanks,
Matt

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Nov-01 AT 02:11 PM (EST)]I have been told by others that if you can put in 6.5's, do it.....what is the best way to fit the 6.5's in there, just cut the whole bigger and don't worry about recreating the recessed portion that the original 5 1/4's fit into?
Another question, when you guys have put in better door speakers in the 73-79's, have you cut up the door panel and installed the speaker grille, instead of just putting the door panel over top, which looks like it would obstruct sound quite a bit?
Thanks posters!
Matt
Edit - Crutchfield says that 6.5's are stock.....anyone agree/disagree?
