Anyone have one of these? I just got one from Belkin, and in all honesty, it's a piece of junk. It only offers me 4 channels to choose from, and one of them is taken up by a semi-strong FM station, so that channel never works. My friend has one, and I think he can choose the channel he wants, and not just go through the four. Not sure though, I'll have to ask.
Anyone have recommendations for a better one that I can use in my car? Maybe a brand, model? Consumer Reports hasn't covered this yet either.
I picked one up at Target the other night for $30. I forget the brand name but this one is just a plug for the cigarette lighter, has 7 channels (87.9-89.1) that are selectable and it plays either off a USB chip or it has a jack and cable that can be hooked to any other external device. The features are pretty basic but I can now get about 8 hours of music on a 512MB chip. Beats messing with CD's.
I was surprised at how clear the sound was, especially for the money and size. I drive by several large Universities on my ride to work and got some static near them - probably caused by their student radio station. Other than for a block or two it was fine.
I'll check the brand name on it when I get out to the car next.
You must have the oldest Belkin model. I just go the latest one, and you can choose your channel from 88.1 to 107.9 or something like that. It's worked great for me so far. BTW I dont reccomend the Griffin iTrip. I've heard horror stories of random restarts and even causing the iPod to lose all its data.
It's oval, has one finger-tip-sized power button, 2 AAA batteries, one small and short cord to connect the iPod and a selector on the side for the 4 channels. I'm going to go and look for another one and try to return this one, but I'd like to know what to look for/look out for when I get back there to try.
I'm not sure want you are trying to do. I have an iRiver H320 MP3 player, it has 20 Gigs of storage and has a tunable FM receiver built into it, it records whatever you want and has a built-in microphone also. I could have bought an iPod but chose the iRiver just because it has a built-in FM radio, ( it actually works as well!) The iRiver cost less at the time, and actually has a very good reputation/following.
Edit..Nevermind...sorry..I now understand, you are trying to listen to your ipod thru your car radio.

I have an iPod, and a "Monster" (the wiring company) transmitter. I can have up to 3 preset stations, and can choose what they are throughout the entire FM range. There is some static and crackling, in some parts of town worse than others, but maybe I just haven't found the right station...
I just got the Kensington one. It is a charger and transmitter in one. It allows you to tune to any radio station, and has three preset buttons that you can program. I'm very happy with it. I think it was about $50 on amazon.com, but I can't remember exactly.
