Anybody Fly UAVs??

Curious if anybody on here flies UAV's. Seriously looking at a job doing it. I don't even know if I will be able to get the job but can't hurt to try. If anyone on here does. What's it like and how well do you like it?

Thanks,
Nate

Never flew the real deal. Supported the simulator at various warfighters. It's certainly an interesting system/systems.

I throw paper-airplanes sometimes..does that count??
Seriously, how many professional UAV flyers can there be?, and if there are many of them, they would most likely be civilian contractors working for the military in Iraq, Afcrapistan, and other hot spots. I doubt they could even talk about what they do, since their jobs are probably all classified as secret. Sounds like fun, but if you like aviation maybe a becoming a licensed general or commercial pilot would be better.

There is a lot of controversy over them. I watched a show last week that showed their weaknesses, icing, software, performance outside of the software designs, etc. They are not cheap and require a lot of support.

This link may help a little:

More UAV pilots than you can possibly imagine. Plus they can make more than a lot of commercial pilots. They are mostly civilians but they aren't contractors. THey work for defense contractors. Such as Anteon, Northrup, Boeing, etc. I figured with all the people on here someone would know more than me. By the way I am a licensed pilot and it's a blast but I don't want to do commercial aviation.
They are really quite interesting. I have been up and around a few of them and flown patterns with some. THere are already a ton more than anybody realizes and they are constantly designing and building new ones. In the not so very distant future there will be a lot more of them. The base where we live by is building it's own new community just for the UAV stuff.

Wink UAV Qualifications

Go buy an "Ugly Stick" and join an RC club.
In a few short weeks you can qualify as an UAV pilot.

Interesting note, back in the 70's Mike Daily made a model of the Noel Wien plane used to open up the interior of Alaska.

Then they put Mike in a "Chase Plane", and he flew his model plane up the Alaska Railroad route, from the "Chase Plane" While the filming was going on.
All the scenes in the Movie about Noel Wien were shot at Mike's model.

IF you have good eyes the RC stuff can be fun. As you can imagine the UAV flying requires Radar and a host of players.
