this is a side note, kind of. has to deal with shocks, but i dont want to start a new thread just for this.
i love to drive my work truck, a 2006 f-250 with FX4 package. it includes Rancho shocks all the way around, and it handles so well. on my personal, i have stock rear shocks, and rough country front shocks (from the leveling kit). will replacing just the 4 shocks with bilsteins make this big beast handle sharper? it feels like i am driving a warm stick of butter, it is all sloppy and pushy around turns. take into consideration that the wheelbase on my truck is 30'' longer than the work truck.
Just figured i would give an update without starting a new thread. Got the Bilsteins in yesterday. All was pretty easy. Fronts a piece of cake. And rears once i got the tops in and cut the strap....all i did was just push the strut up with one hand and slide a small screwdrive through the hole and mounting location to keep it there, then used a floor jack to slowly raise the shock it up just a little to slide the bolt through and thats it. Very easy if you do it this way. No jack stands, one person job. And took about an 2 hours from start to totally done. Just takin my time.
As far as first driving impressions( only have driven truck about 10 miles)......not as impressed as i thought i would be to be honest. Definitely better then the stock i had...but not that much of an improvement over stock. Feels more stable...but hits bumps and all just as hard or very close as before....just doesnt skip a little sideways as it did before when it hits the bump in the front. So shocks were definitely causing that. I will give an update once i drive the truck more and get a few more miles on them. Maybe i just expected more form all teh praise they received, or my stock shocks were not as worn out as i thought. But my question is...is there anything else in front end that will cause a rough ride or harshness with bumps? Ball joints, tie rods? front stabilizer? etc etc
Mine really took out the side to side sway when crossing an angled rise in the road and the highway ride was more positive with no rebound. And with a load, they are great. Don't get me wrong, it IS STIFF (empty), but it is a 3/4 ton straight axled, leaf sring, pick-up for sure. I'm amazed everytime I ride in my buddy,s 2500 D-Max how much smoother it rides. Almost car / SUV like. My wife's Durango needs shocks and I won't put the Bilsteins on because they're just too "heavy-duty". But for my truck I like them and the Warranty is good. Hope you get to like them. Nothing like spending money and being disappointed. Good luck.
I ordered 4 from eshocks.com today. I hope I'm not disappointed, a $260.00 kick in the "Bean Bag" of disappointment would be unsatisfying to say the least!!!!
