My 2001 Expedition is due for shocks. I've searched this forum and have not found any info yet regarding the best brand and style to go with. I have read good reviews on the Bilstein and Rancho but have not found a proper fit for my 4x2 XLT with rear air bags.
And some places are showing rear shocks that work WITH rear air bags. I haven't been under my Expy to find out, but does it have rear shocks too??
Any tips on the brand and part number of a good riding shock? I just installed 4 brand new Pathfinder tires (Luxury SUV) and they are so sweet!!
I've searched performancecenter.com and tirerack.com for the bilstein shock and they are coming up about $64 each for the heavy duty shock absorber Part Number: BE5-2571.
thanks for any help you can give me. .I want to do this job this week!!
Thanks for the info, guys. After going to eshocks.com and shockwarehouse.com I found the Bilstein shocks that will fit my 4x2 2001 Expedition. I read that the heavy duty shocks by Bilstein would give a firmer ride as opposed to a comfortable ride. I chose 4 Monroe Shocks: MonroMatics. They should arrive in 5-7 days. I am hoping the ride is what I am expecting it to be.
I should have told you that the first set of shocks I purchased for my 97 Expy were MonroMatics and I blew a right front out after 2 years and it was scary when on HWY S turns hit a bump/ pothole making right turn and the whole truck jumped 1 lane to right, good thing nobody was in right lane.
Bilstein is the only shock for our Expys...The ride is much more controlled, no more swaying on the freeways, and way more positive feel in the steering wheel.
Put it this way, if my wife can tell the difference, that says something big. BILSTEIN THE ONLY SHOCK PERIOD!!!
... I've searched this forum and have not found any info yet regarding the best brand and style to go with. I have read good reviews on the Bilstein and Rancho...
So, let me get this straight:
1. You see good reviews (I assume here, and possibly some of my posts and from other people perhaps above)
2. You see that you can indeed get shocks for your truck from one place
3. You don't bother checking other sources (from some other links) for listings for Bilsteins
4. You don't go to Summitracing which has some of the best pricing anywhere
5. You buy Monroes with no positive feedback here.
Oh well. You will probably end up liking them. Many people like whatever they have bought and installed themselves...
Maybe after reading the reviews and opinions he decided that he wanted the softer ride of the Monroes and not the stiffer one that Bilsteins would give.
THANKS GUYS. . . but here in America we still live in a land of free choice. I didn't mind you guys spending over $250 for the Bilstein shocks, but I couldnt justify spending it on my Expedition and for $106 I get a satisfying, comfortable ride that was recommended by a trustworthy alignment specialist here in town. I'm glad you enjoy your Bilstein shocks on your Expedition's.
While I appreciated the reviews and feedback on the Bilsteins, I didnt appreciate your snide comments on my choice of the Monroe shocks. It's my expedition, and its my money and it will always be my choice.
For what I need, the Monromatics will fit perfect in my gameplan and I'll be happy for a long time.
I love this forum for the information, reviews and help. I hope it will remain that way.
