Where is the best place to get the power source for the rechargeable maglite from? I just bought the light. I found several on eBay and they were are reasonably priced.
My question in this... you don't want this light charging all the time, I wouldn't think. Seems like if it were only charging while the truck was running, that would be plenty... OR attach it to an upfitter swich, maybe, and charge it when you feel like charging it?
Are the upfitter switches ignition dependent? Meaning, are the switches switched?
I have mine connected all the time, truck on or not, the directions that came with mine said it controlled the charging. I haven't had any problems with it connected this way. Have replaced the battery once in the 8 years that I have owned it.
The last thing one needs to worry about in a roll over in a Super Duty (or any vehicle, for that matter) is loose cargo. I know I read somewhere about how bad they (SD) do in roll overs (which is why I had considered a rollbar--don't know how that would work in a crewcab though). Still love the SD, though.
Keep my Maglite in the console. But, after reading these posts, think I will keep it in the door. I like Bearhunter's mount--but I haven't seen any mounts made for the regular Mags, yet.
Stock Mags are weak, you need to soup em up a bit. A stock Maglite (2D) puts out maybe 30 Lumens. I have a 3D modded to run off of 9 AA batteries, that uses a welych allen 1185 bulb that puts out 1234 bulb lumens!! I had to put in a metal reflector and a new socket to hold the bulb, the stock parts would melt almost instanlty with this set up.
I got my Maglite rechargeable (RX1019) in the mail last night (got it off of eBay) and I am very happy with it. The mount for it is unbelievably strong and tight. It will be perfect.
