Here is a strange question i got from a guy the other day and it made me start to think. He asked me what do king pins do on my dana 60 i have some thought but i want to see what some of you say first.he then went on to tell me i can't have a 4x4 with kings pins and i was like but I do and i showed him and thats when i got the question.
Alright then Rob, if you're so smart - what do the queen pins do?
Nag the king pins to an early grave, what do you think they do?

according to SnoBlow they are un-neccessary and only add weight. he knows this b/c he has 40+ years of experience and was driving 4x4's before any of use were born! also he has ball joints under all his jeep trucks and that makes kingpins overkill and not necessary.
what a douche sack!
what others said... they hold the knuckle on the axle and allow the knuckle to pivot creating a steer axle. thats why rear axles dont have knuckles.
The guy you were talking to may be only familiar with kingpins say on a semi truck, or be a guy like snoman. They are kingpins and they go all the way through the axle in one peice instead of two separate pieces like say on a D60. A guy at work (diesel shop) that has been around for a longtime wouldnt believe me that the D60 I was working on had kingpins, he just couldnt understand it until i showed him. He was used to the kingpins on semi trucks.
What he (Thomsen) said, I went to college for diesel tech and the first time that I heard someone say kingpins on a 4x4 I said huh? where does the axleshaft go? but it all makes sense now.
