I'm replacing the window motor and tried to accuate the motor via the switch but on the inside of the tailgate with a screw-driver and got nothing, does it have to have the lever on the switch touch to make the circuit?
The t-gate switch for the window is actually TWO momentary push-button switches that are activated by a paddle on the tumbler mechanism. When the key is inserted and turned, the paddle swings around and presses one button or the other depending upon which direction the key is turned. The ground for the tailgate power is actually fed all the way from the ground lug up behind the emergencey brake pedal. It runs through the dashboard switch first then continues back to the keyswitch and through to the window motor. This prevents a short circuit should both switches somehow be activated at the same time since the power (+ pos.) is fed by two separate circuit breakers for each switch. The CB in position 12 feeds power to the keyswitch and the CB in position 14 feeds the dashboard switch.
In theory, yes, it should. If it does not, check the wiring harness particularly between the gate and the jamb. If that checks out, circuit breaker 12 may be a problem. If THAT checks out AND the window works using the dashboard switch, swap the CB's in positions 12 & 14. In the event NONE of this gets the window moving with the keyswitch, the problem is more than likely the switch(es) themselves or the safety interlock switch on the driver's side latch. (The safety interlock would keep the window from moving with either switch though).
