I know this forum is for Aerostar vans but was hoping someone may be able to help.
I have a friend that want's me to change the starter on their 1996 Windstar.
I haven't looked at the van yet but was wondering if they are easy or hard to swap out?
Need to lift or lower the motor out of the way?
Just wanted some feedback to see if I want the job or not.
Any help would be great.
Thanks, Ken
Well is it a 3.8L or 3.0L? (both optional on the 96)
If it is the 3.0L it is a piece of cake (located right under the oil filter), just jack up the front, unplug the battery, unplug the starter, remove a couple bolts, reverse to install.
It has been forever sense I have crawled under a 3.8L so off hand I can't remember if it is on the front bank or the rear bank. Sorry.
Yeah, I did one on my mom's 95 3.8L Windstar. Didn't take very long. I think I unplugged one of the oxygen sensors to make it a spec easier. But not too bad of a job...only took about 15 minutes.
Make sure you disconnect the negative battery cable first. Or else be ready for some fireworks.
