The transmission is bad in my 1979 F-250 and I was curious of what companies i should look at for a new one? I checked TCI Auto and i was wondering if anyone has used the Truckmaster C6 from them? Also, is the C6's from like NAPA or Car Quest auto parts any good? Any comments or suggestions please!
i would just take the one you have to a reputable transmission rebuilder that is close to you. You would probably be happier and get a better job. That is what I did with mine. I've heard of a few people doing it your way, and they weren't very happy.
While you are at it, have a shift kit thrown in that thing. It gives much nicer and firmer shifts that way.

I've got a TCI cast aluminum C-6 oil pan, 2 1/2" deep. It looks like it won't fit without lifting the tailshaft to clear the X member. Has anyone installed one in a F250? Not to steal thread, sorry. I would go to a small independent trans shop not a large production "slam bam" like AAMCO.
Ford390gashog, I want to add the TCI pan to a 68 CS, don't want to waste time and oil to find it dosen't fit. First I have to locate a new brass filter screen which looks like a Plymouth item that mounts on the oil pickup extension. A spring time project as its wet and cold outside.

I got a c6 from that phoenix-reman place thats on ebay. I was only a couple hundred bucks, and came with a new/rebuilt convertor too. It was cheaper than any local places quoted me and that was me pulling and installing. I still have the old one too, which I think I will probably rebuild myself just for the practice.
I agree with the other guys, use a reputable shop from your area. Ask freinds or people you know who they would suggest. We have all of our driveline work do by heavy truck specialist from the area and have always been happy with results.
Keep in mind that the C6 was made for light cars up to heavy trucks. If you take it to a shop or order a generic one you might get a light duty unit. Make sure they build yours or use heavy duty parts.
I think CarQuest here in town is a bit overpriced, so I would stay away from them. I was looking for a 1.5 gallon gas can and the guy told me $5. So I kindly told him thank you and walked away. There are several places in Boise that re-build trannys. I would start calling around and find out the prices and go from there. If you need any help, let me know. I PM'd you my number.
