Accelerator pedal

My sister in laws 2004 Excursion diesel has a floppy accelerator pedal. The pivot pin that is a press fit through the pedal rod is loose and slid out from its proper place allowing the pedal to flop around. One of the pedal pin holes is all mangled up.

I called my dealer parts man about this problem and he says they have seen this problem before. He states that the plastic pedal itself is not available and that they sell the pedal assembly which supposedly includes the accelerator pedal sensor.

If I replace the accelerator pedal assembly including the sensor is there an accelerator pedal sensor relearn procedure that must be performed prior to driving the vehicle or will the PCM automatically calibrate itself with the new sensor while the vehicle is being driven?

as with any emission related part replacement I would disconnect the batteries before replacing the part.
If my memory serves me correct, there is three pots in the accelerator pedal and the PCM tracks and compares them to each other.

I don't know if this it true about Ford, but a lot of times with other brands you have to initialize the new component to the vehicle that the piece is installed in. Requires dealer level scanners and software. Sux but that's the way it is.
