I was towing a trailer, when I cam to a stop and tried to accelerate it bogged real bad. Once I got up to speed I was ok...at an idle it runs rough and smokes bad! I changed the CPS, no joy. How do I test the turboe charger???
Not real sure how you check a turbo, but if it isn't making noise, leaking oil, or smoking from under the hood. It should still be good as long as you can still hear the normal turbo whine.
Have you checked for things like a clogged air filter ?
What made you change the CPS? It will just allow the engine to run or not at all.
How about HPOP regulation? That's the IPR valve. It's possible that it's getting sticky and needs to be cleaned. http:// cw-diesel.com/LuxSite/IPRInfo.htm Remove the space after the http:// for the link to work.
Thanks...There is no whine from under the hood. Fuel and air filters are good. I put a vacume pump on the waist gate solenoid, the solenoid does not move at all. I just finished pulling the turbo and checking the waist gate to make sure it was not hung up. It opens and closes smooth. The solenoid does not move at all when I apply a vacume...I'm going to change it and see what happens.
the wastegate actuator (gold canister on the compressor shroud) is activated by pressure, not vacuum. it only takes 3-5 psi to open.
change the fuel filter, and fill the bowl with a fuel additive. then start it up and it should run alot better once the DFA is gone through and it is back on #2 again.
oops...I'll have to check again with pressure. I added DFA last night and drove home (6 miles) when I cranked it and drove to my shop this morning same thing...I can't here the turbo whine when I try to rev it up. When I get up to about 40-50 mph it seams to run fine. I was told by someone that the ram air it gets when it is up at speed is enought to make it run ok

there is no load on the turbo when the engine is not under load. so therefore no whistle. put it in drive or slip the clutch, and dog the engine some, and yes you will hear some turbo.
no, the ram air isnt enough to make it "run ok". you have a fuel delivery problem. you never said what color smoke it is. have you checked your airfilter recently?
