Speedo Woes

I can't remember if I've asked this before or not, but here goes.
I replaced the speedo cable on my 78 F150 C6. The old one had a hole melted thru by the exhaust. Now the speedo reads about 10mph faster at all speeds. What gives? Would too much bend in the new cable cause this? Should I take out the cable to speedometer connector and reseat it? What to do?...what to do?....

[font color=red size=2]As far as I know the cable should not change the speedo at all, as long as you have the same gear on the trans end and the same speedo. The cable is just the connection between the two.

Take the end out of the tranny, and check it against your old one.

The cables looked the same before I installed the new one. There is a plastic gear that was removed from the old one and installed on the new cable on the trans end of it. The new cable did not come with a new gear.

The cable would not come with a gear, because there are so many that could be used with it.

Shot in the dark… maybe the sharp bend is causing the cable inside to whip instead of turning smoothly. The whipping action might fool the speedo but I would have thought the needle would bounce too. Can you temporarily straighten the cable out for a test drive?

Sounds like a tire size issue to me
