Loose Steering

I am fixing up my 76 custom f100 and I wanted to know if i change out the steering box will that fix my loose steering or is there another way to fix this problem

This would depend on IF your box is loose, could be tie rods, king pins or other suspension parts. Even rear suspension problems can make them loose on the road.

i would take that to church or some thing and get those low moral standards fixed. jk i bet you have some tie rods or somethig like that worn out.

I got under the tuck to see if the tie rods were moving but when the wheel turns at the top of the box nothing turns at the bottom of the box could this still be worn tie rods

okay i have a silly question are the bolts which hold the steering box to the frame tight? (seen it happen before)

yes i they are my brother ask the same thing he had that problem on his truck

do a search first, but you can adust the box to remove the slack. You said you already checked the tie rod ends. Also check the rag joint or steering coupler thats a common wear item.

not meaning to hijack here but i cant keep my ragjoint together with the shaft it just pops off = court and tickets and cost to repair fence any ideasthe bolt was replaced with the bolt in my bodylift kit when it was done any chance the bolt is the wrong size? if not where can i get a new ragjoint and what do they cost?

I think the rag joint kit includes the bolts. I got mine at O'Reilly. For about $10.00

Busted knuckle (or fence as it were) you should try to locate the original bolt that held the rag joint onto the steering box input shaft. Measure it with calipers and compare it to the one that came with this "lift kit." If the new one is smaller you should try to get a grade 8 equivalent bolt from a hardware or auto parts store. Another thing you can do (if you have a telescoping shaft) is to put some kind of clamp on the shaft where the smaller section can retract into the larger. Put the clamp in a position only slightly past where the smaller shaft goes indside the larger. This will prevent the shaft from retracting and will not allow the rag joint to come off. Either way, you should feel the steering getting loose well before you destroy any neighbors yards.
