79 4x4 crewcab frontaxle?
Does anyone know if the front axle under a 79 F250 4x4 crew cab is a 44 or a 60? I have pictures of the one I'm trying to get, but I can't see the spindles, and can't really tell how big the hubs are. It does have a sway bar on it, and the fender of the truck has a badge of some sorts, in the spot where I've seen other trucks say camper special... but i can't make out what the badge says. Any ideas?? Also, any idea how many of these were made in 79?

Easiest way to tell: Look at the top of the knuckles. If they have kingpins with 4 bolts in a square pattern that hold the cap in place (and on the driver's side hold the steering arm in place) then it's a D60. If they have 1 fat nut up top there or 3 bolts in an arc then it's a D44.

I'm not sure what option or whatever caused a D60 to go into a crew cab, but of the 3 I own, 2 have D60s while one has a 44 (unfotunately the 79!), so I'd say your odds are like 50:50. Cap'n crunches suggestion is good.. another way to tell is to take a wire brush under there and clean off the casting around where the front cover goes on along the bottom.. somewhere on there will be a "44" or a "60" cast into it.
