Steering is loose

My steering is loose, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to fix it? The steering wheel moves around 3-4 inches without the tires actually moving. Is there a bushing in the colum somewhere?

Have someone move steering wheel back and forth while you examine all tie rod ends and drag links for bad joints.
Have someone move steering wheel back and forth while you examine the connector on steering shaft that leads to power steering pump.
Lastly could be power steering pump. I adjusted mine to tighten up steering but it is still "loose", I need to replace it.

Mine drove me crazy for awhile. There is a telescoping joint in the steering assembly before it hits the steering box. Fixed it right up after about $120.00 was applied to Ford Dealership...lol
