Unable to shift from park

bseale, did you ever get it out of park? You can temperarily do it by turning the key forward enough to unlock the wheel, but not too far to where the dash lights come on and the radio fires up. Theres a fine line in between those two points where you can shift it out of park into nuetral, and then start it.

No - I have a different problem. My shifter handle is not moving the linkage to the transmission. Flyball's message #7 in this thread comes pretty close to describing what I thik I have to do. I've never removed the instrument panel but I guess that's what I'll be doing this weekend in rorder to access the torx bolts he is talking about.

Fixed it

I managed to get out the tube that goes from the shift lever to the operating rod to the transmission. It wasn't hard and I did not have to take the whole dashboard out. The dealer guy says he sells a ot of them and the replacement was beefed up in the area that cracked. Cost $29 and trying to remove one at a junck yard wasn't worth it - besides it would have had the same weak spot. Wish I could post a picture.
