The actuator is broken in my steering column, this connects the ignition switch to the starter rod, I have taken off the wheel and shroud put can't get the gear shift shroud off. 1991' F250. Any ideas. Thanks
I had the same thing happen on my 89 f250. I used my chiltons manual to do it.....
Lots of detail.....blows me away that the thing that breaks would break because it looks really tough.
I walked into a ford parts dealer and waved the broken part.....he didn't say anything, just walked in the back and in 10 sec had a new part......This is a major failing part.
there are 2 pins on each side on the tilt column, I don't remember the complete layout. I found that those pins were threaded. find a bolt that fits in. make sure the bolt is at least 1 1/2 inches long. I used a oversized 1/4 socket that i ran the bolt thru then fassened a nut behind the socket. after threading the device on the pin i tightened the nut on the bolt and used it to retract out the pin. I did pull out the whole column, but found out later it wasn't necessary
Ahh yes I have done this repair a few times. It can be a pain in the ***, but if you take your time, its pretty easy to do. When I put mine back in, I put a little lube in there too.
