Hi i have a recently rebuilt ford 5.0 in my 1988 f150 port matched intake/ thorttle body and some head work with stock mustang shorty headers. i was offered a set of 8 30lb fuel injectors for 50 bucks i was told they will help in hp but have heared otherwise unless computer upgrades are made. can you please tell me if they will help, i know there a good deal but if they wont help then its a waste. thank you. if i left any critical info out please ask me
Unless your engine needs more fuel than the stock injectors provide (which it shouldn't with the modifications you listed), there will be no increase in performance by simply installing larger injectors.
Most likely all that will do is waste fuel. I replaced mine with Ford Racing 19 lbs injectors. This is the factory spec. They have 19 24 30 and so on. The 24 would be a little much the 30 is way too much. Thats my thoughts.
My 392 stroker motor has great fuel pressure but needed more fuel per a dyno test so it was recommended I upgrade injectors to larger than stock, which is 19#. I went with 24# figuring if they are enough for a 460, they should work OK for a 392. No problems thus far. Truck runs strong even with SD instead of MAF. Pulls a 28' 5th wheel in the summer and runs in the dunes with the best of 'em! Heck I can still get 12-14 mpg in OD w/ 3.55 LS gears and 33" tires. (Not when I'm pulling obviously!)
thats what i figured, exactly what i did was gasket match the intake to the heads by reomving all the excess material that made the passages so tiny, did a little work to the inside of the heads where the valve stem passes though the head i took of all the rough edges in the exaust and intake side along with opened up the exhaust port by making it gasket matched and removing the damn smog air bumps, and the t/b is also gasket matched to the intake and stock ford mustang shorty headers ( grinded the hell out of the big old sloppy welds they did on the inside). yeah i figured it would just waste gas and do nothing noticible but take more money out of my pocket. im prolly better of on scrapping for parts to convert to MAF. thanks for your in put guys.
