This question is actually for my parents that own a 2002 Ford F-350 with the 7.3 Powerstroke diesel.....In 2002 was a engine block heater standard???? And if it was, where exactly is it located at?????
The heater element is located right by the oil filter which is on the driver side. Should be an orange cord coming from that, and coming out of the front bumper by what I like to call, the Dodge Hook (on the driver side). It is a black 3 prong cord and should have a protective "wrap" around it to prevent wear. Might be kind of hard to fish it out the first time, so leave it so you can get to it. Also, You will know the element is working because as soon as you plug it in, you should hear gurgling noises at the element. It heats the water.
I know all this because I have to replace mine this weekend. Truck didn't start all week. Sub-zero weather.
Another little piece of advice. Invest in an outdoor electical timer ('bout $10.00) that will handle 100watts or more and set it to activate the heater about 2.5 - 3 hours befor you want to start it. Will save quite a bit on utility bill.
Boy . . . that was two cents worth!
I know this is an old thread but I learned something "NEW" today.
Maybe this will help someone else too. I didn't know bockheaters where "standard equip".
Reading the window sticker from my '03, the "engine block heater" is listed under optional equipment but at "no charge". I'll let you explain that one.
