I just bought my ride a few months back and I decided to change fuel filter. I took the black powerstroke cover off. I thought I was going to see a fue filter with the back top. What I saw was what looked like brass colored canister. Its not what I was expecting. Is this a cover that I need to take off and how do I go about it?? thanks
I agree, a pic would be good, but let me ask this as well: Did you take out this brass-topped item? I'd have a spare fuel filter handy, pull out what's in there now, and do a quick comparison. Good news is that there really isn't an aftermarket fuel bowl, so a stock filter will drop in. I'd say go ahead and swap it for a fresh one, but hold on to what's in there now so we can all figure out what it is.
Its like a top to the fuel filter but its not one that you dispose of. It might be the stock top and its been changed all these years with filter without the top and kept the stock one. I will try and post a pic this evening
The round black plastic top in the center of this photo is what a stock fuel filter should look like:
it looks like yours but it is a dull brass color, how do I get it off? The only kind I have seen is the one with the hole for a 3/8 drive to turn to take it off.
I use a pliers and set each handle across from each other in the recesses and then turn it out with a crescent wrench closed around the jaws of the pliers. That has worked pretty well for me and there is always a pliers and crescent wrench around the shop somewhere. LOL
