AIS vs. NAPA 6637
#3
I'm interested in this topic as well. Does anybody have any hard data on this? I'm about ready to update my intake and these are the 2 that I've narrowed it down to.
(PSNut): I noticed in your Sig. that you have the AIS installed. Why not the 6637 if it flows more air. You obviously have your reasons and possibly some info. Please share!
Thanks Much.

I have had an AIS intake on my PSD since they came out and have read tons of member's responses on the AIS compared to other intake systems such as the Tymar (napa) version.
If your PSD is stock and you opt for the AIS then it will flow more air than your PSD can use. If you are chipped/tuner, etc. then you will have to do a zoodad mod and/or the fender sleeve mod in order for the AIS to get more air flow.
I have not seen scientific evidence that show actual results comparing the AIS against the Tymar on air flow specs., etc. I would have to guess that the Tymar will flow more air.
I do know that the AIS offers the maximum filtration available. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a bit of flow for the filtration capabilities. Depends on what goal you're trying to achieve by installing the AIS or the Tymar style intake.
If warranty is a concern and your truck is pretty much stock then the AIS is probably the way to go as it is a factory approved accessory.

called Donaldson to request specifications on the P606122...... they were unable to give me a CFM rate for this filter which I thought was strange.

One intersting note:
I have had my oil tested at least twice a year by Blackstone Labs since the day my PSD was new.
I ran a drop in K & N filter for the first year and the Silicon levels in my oil tested at 7 PPM.
Since I installed the AIS Severe Duty intake and filter, the Silicon level has been testing between 3-4 PPM.
Does anybody have any similar records on the filtration of the Tymar (aka Kwik) air filter?

So to recap ....
Napa 6637 CFM = 425
AIS / FA1757 CFM = 775
Clearly the there is a big difference by the numbers.

This gent has real world dramatic results with the filter in competition and knows his stuff.
Also, i would want independent lab test results from a flow bench. Just my .02 worth.
