Hi all....Just a question for a problem i'm having.
'89 BII XLT
2WD - 2.9 Auto
I've been having a very bad vibration lately when appling the brakes, and it's getting worse.
No recent work to the brake system and the pads are in good shape. It does seem to be less severe if I pump the brakes a little, but my increasing stopping distance is starting to get me worried. Also, the force needed to apply the brakes is becoming excessive to the point that I won't allow my wife to drive it now.
Not being "automotively inclined" I'm hoping someone has an idea what the problem might be.
Yes rotors sounds like a thought but also I would say master cylinder .....I think with the pumping of the brakes its a lack of pressure issue to the fliud maybe, possible air in the lines too ....TR .....
It is definetley the rotors and you say your not to good with working on trucks. But replacing rotors arent that hard. Just get you a chiltons manual and it will show you exactly how to do it. Also bleed the brakes while your at it. The pressure issue you have sounds like you have air in the system. Having the rotors machined if they are able to do it will cost about 25.00 at most and new rotors will probably cost you around 65.00. I agree that the rotors are warpped, but the calipers and front flexible brake lines must also be suspect. I went through this with my 89 b-II till it got much worse to the point that the braking hydrolic pressure in the lines would not release after releasing the brake. I thought the caliper slides were binding, so I cleaned and lubbed them but the prob. returned. Only after replacing the calipers, slides, lines, pads and warpped rotors did the trick. Have the bearings checked and greased if the rotors were overheating.
