I have a 2001 Sport Trac w/88K miles. I recently had the front brakes completely done with new pads and rotors. The ST drives great at any speeds with no noises/vibrations/shutters. Before the brake job I noticed my sterring wheel shaking and brake pedal pulsate when applying the brakes and that led me to do the brakes. After the brake job I still get a vibration when applying the brakes. It's more noticeable at 40mph but it's present at any speeds. I took the ST in today at the same place that did the brake job to look at it. He thought it may be a warped rotor so he replaced the rotors and brakes again and it didn't solve the vibration issue. He doesn't have any ideas to solve the vibration problem.
Again, the vibration is ONLY noticed when applying the brakes. What else could be the problem?? I'm at my wits end!!

I found your Oct. 29 post on the ford-trucks.com forum about disc brake problems with your Sport Trac. Apparently no one replied with a fix. I have exactly the same problem with my 1994 E350, and the replecement work didn't clear up the shudder in the froint disc brakes, just like with your truck. Did you ever come to a resolution on this?
No, I haven't been able to fix the problem. I'm going to change the rotors again but I'm going to buy from a different place. They may have gotten a bad batch of rotors at the old place I purchased before. Other than doing this I don't know what else to do.
Got the truck back from the shop today. It was the rear brakes. Both rear drums cracked, cam on emergency brake actuator was frozen in place. New drums, new shoes, $765.00 later, stops smooth as silk. Wasted the money on the front rotors, but at least I can stop without shaking the house down.
Probably a good idea to pull your rear drums and check them. If you don't have an easy way to check the drums for an out-of-round condition, take them to a brake shop and have them put the drums on a lathe and tell you the state of things. And, maybe cracks or other defects will be obvious. In any case, check out the rear. You've probably done everything you can with the front.
I've checked the rear drums by applying the emergency brake (only) while the truck was going down the road at ~30mph. The truck stopped and had no vibration. I believe the problem is in the front brakes due to the steering wheel shaking and pedal pulsating when applied. I'm going to check the mating surface of the hub and rotor. I was told that sometimes rust will build up there and cause the hud not to sit flush with the rotor.
