I had someone reseal the back sliding window on my 99' and it still leaks but not as bad...do I have to get the whole window replaced now or how does that work? how much money am I looking at to get this resolved? I can't believe it would still leak after they resealed it. What causes the leak exactly? The glass is deformed or something?
My '97 rear window(s) leak too. Not the sliding part, but around the top panes of glass to either side. Previous owner took it in the shop for the same problem...but it's still leaking.
Only leaks when I wash it and go over it with a hose though....
Hey guys I have the same prob on my 02 FX4...I havent resealed my window yet but I have heard that the leak also comes from the third brake light, "if you have one." There is a prob in the assembly or something with a seal and the water channels its way down to the windows. Which would make you think it was the window leaking, but WE DO know that the windows are notorious for leaking also! I called my local dealer and there IS a replacement for the light, which the guy said there must have been a prob that Ford had made a new part to hopefully fix it...I think the cost was around $50 for the part. Maybe you have heard this before, but hope it helps...this will be my first fix. $50 is a lot cheaper than re-sealing the window especially if it fixes it!
I had this problem twice on my '97 F150. In my case the 3rd light at the top was not the issue (I did check that, however). What usually happens is the plastic frame that is glued to the glass cracks and there is separation from the glass and therefore a leak. If you replace the whole unit, you're talking several hundred dollars (I think list is about $600???).
The first time was at 42K miles and the dealer replaced the unit for $25 (Ford knows they have a problem, and they took care of most of the cost, the dealer took care of some, and I made a small contribution).
The second time a vehicle glass store said they could fix it for $150 (I think), but if anything broke, it was mine. So I removed the unit, cleaned it up, applied a seal of black polyurethane caulk all around, and re-installed the unit. Less than $20 and 25K miles later it's doing great. You can also check auto parts stores for special windshield sealant.
My 2001 SuperCrew started leaking. The sliding track looks bent out of shape and my left rear seatback gets wet when it rains or I wash it. I found a TSB on 2carpros.com The TSB refers to article #04-2-2 which indicates part number 3L3Z-1542052-AA TA-19. I think I'll run this route on a cold Saturday and let you know what happens.
