Yeah, I want to say it would require moving the firewall, I know that is a problem for some of the swaps. Practically any V8 would require moving it, as would some bigger V6s.
Yeah, this post has got me thinking about what i would do with 1,000,000 dollars. Some people would go out and buy a big shiny new car/truck with nice rims etc, i would probably buy a 20 year old truck, build a nice heated garage, buy a bunch of engines from a junkyard, and start building things up and converting things.
I'd buy a beat up old car of some sort. I'm talking like run down truck or something. Replace all the suspension, tires, rims, everything, but keep it lookin' fairly old and not so motivated.
Then cram the biggest thing I could fit under the hood attached to a wide ratio four speed, preferebly Hurst short throw.
Two bucket seats, four point racing belts, and a little 2.3L logo on the rear bumper. "Rice Eater" somewhere on it.
Lol, have you seen my truck in my gallery? 85 302 with the AOD converted to MAF with 24 lb/hr injectors, crane cam, long tube headers, ignition goodies, and i'm getting my computer chip from motorhaven probably sometime next week. Its programmed for the injectors and the cam and the headers, The truck runs good now, but i cant wait to see what it i'll do next week.

Just so eveyone knows, in the '98-up Rangers there is no need to cut sheet metal, alter the firewall, or make any changes to the frame. Cost depends on how savy you are at locating parts and making deals. I didn't consider the swap "work", it was more fun than anything. The 4.6 swap will get easier as more people start doing it and sharing information.
Don't take people's opinions and assumptions as fact. If we all did that the world would still be flat.
little blue 2wd stepside xcab ranger 5 speed. Its a 94ish year.
And...umm...his is a ~'94. Which DOES require cutting metal. Which is why Peter warned him.
Nobody said it COULDN'T be done. We said it would be hard and challenging and would require some fabrication on his part. I hope he does it, it would be awesome to see how that turned out. It would be great if he did a write up on it once he was done. We just stated that it required some skill to do.
Yeah, basically i'm just trying to say that it isnt just a pull out the old engine, put in the new one and be done with it. I know that when you install a 5.0 on a 94 ranger, you have to bend back the seam of the firewall, and with the 4.6 SOHC being 1/2 inch longer, 6 inches taller, and 9 7/8 wider, i figured it would require even more bending.
Greg R, how long did it take you to do the swap? I mean like if you started in June, when was it complete?, not total hours. Also, i believe the 98's have torsion bar suspension right? The 94's use coils springs, and when you go from a 4 banger to a 8, i'm sure you'll have to add heavier springs to get all the suspension stuff back in order.
hmmm...if the 94 has springs instead ofa tortion bar, i think i want that one.
I want to use as much of my wrecked mustang as possible. Maybe i can use some of the front suspention, brakes and such...
