More info on the JT chip. I have High Idle as well set to 1200 so in the summer, I can keep the AC cold. I also set it there before the factory High Idle kicks in when cold. I had a SCMT and the 60 tow setting blows all three settings away on the tuner. The 80 is enough power to smoke the tires. The 120 I have is insane. Scrap your tuner and get a chip from Jody. You will never look back.

I also got mine from Dennis at ITP. He is great to work with.

Check the prices guys, they have come down a bit.

Does the chip increase the throttle sensitivity more so than a tuner? Is that why the 40hp setting on a chip feels like the 80 or 100hp on a Predator.
I know the tuners are suppose to increase the dyno numbers to the amount of the settings. So is a chip on 40hp only increase the dyno numbers 40hp, but the throttle sensitivity is much higher? Seems that way. And the 60hp and 80hp will increase throttle sensitivity even more.
What I do know is a 40hp chip setting has a higher top speed than a tuner because the speed limiter was bypassed and is no longer working. With the tuner you still have a speed limiter.
Other little things like the PATS system is disabled if you have one. PATS is the passive anti theft system that reads the key code before you can start your engine. My X has a PATS.

Question DP vs JT Chip?

All right, now I'm excited and confused .

What is the difference between the 'DP 6 position chip" and the 'JT chip' both from ITP Diesel?

They both sound awesome.

Jody Tipton (dba DP Tuner) developed his custom tunes for the PSD. He sells the standard flip chip programs and chip burner to dealers or distributors such as ITP. The ITP 6 position chip is actually the same tune and hardware that Jody sells through his company, DP Tuner.

I believe that Jody is the only guy that can customize a tune for your PSD if you have performance injectors, HPOP, tranny mods etc. Not sure if dealers like ITP can do this customization on site. Jody develops the custom tune and can send that tune to the dealer where they can burn locally.

Still confused???

You fill out the same info. sheet for Dennis on his site as at DP Tuner. I think Dennis can customize but only to a certain point such as Heatstroked mentioned.

My chip was not working correctly so Dennis sent me a new one and had a UPS label ready for me to ship the bad one back directly to Jody.

The chip increases throttle response throughout the rpm range and is just snappier and more powerful than a tuner. I had the computer code NVK4 and the chip changed me to PMT1 which is supposedly a better program. One other thing the chip does better than my SCMT did is shifting. When coming off the interstate and you touch the brakes, in my old program, the TC would unlock and now it doesn't which helps me slow down. Also, when slowing, at 32-40mph, the tranny will shift down much like an allison would. I did not have that on my stock program and I really like it. Hope this makes sense.

So whats the total price on a 6 position chip and do you really need 6 positions. Can you just get 4 lets say 60hp tow, 80hp econo, 120 HP race and 140Hp extreme and is stock concidered a program. On the 20/40/60 tow versions what is the max weight for each? Or is there a special to get one with all the positions used. Let me know as my wife keeps asking what I want for Christmas. Sounds like I know what I want...

Yes you can get up to 6 pos. I have stock, High Idle,60,80,120. you can get a 40 for heavy tow and 140 if you have the right mods. It is my understanding that you have to have a aftermarket hpop to keep up witht he 140 setting. Go to ITP diesel .com and read all about it or to DP Tuner .com.

Now here is the bad news, pretty unrelated but crappy non the less. I get home from the fire station today to find out the water main to my house has ruptured. It is gonna cost me 7500.00 bones to fix. Spent all day today digging up my drive way. Sure felt good to get in my truck and drive to the local eatery though.

One question, does anyone use this chip with a 6-speed? The problems I have with the SCMT is the throttle response. The throttle is so touchy you cannot shift smoothly, especially with a load behind you. I was wondering if the chip can be programmed for this. With the SCMT, I will be replacing U-joints or rears if I continue to use it. BTW, sent the programmer back to SC and the say they have no fix for this condition.

I think alot of us are experiencing the same "touchy throttle" with tuners. I'm interested and hopeful that it's not the case.

alot of times the IDM mod will help with the touchy throttle issues especially on really hot programs. there are quite a few guys that write programs for aftermarket injectors i use tony wildman. beansdieselperformance uses beans and beans injectors are in the most powerful pulling truck and the fastest PSD. tony's "luke cline" program can really get the pucker factor meter up there......

NOPE! Tony Wildman can also do whatever you need. My TWildman chip's low setting was like the high setting on my old Superchips tuner. Of-coarse TWildman learned from Jody, but he now writes his own tunes. The DP- tuner chip can be "custom" burnt also. The chip off the shelf is awesome and superior over tuners as far as performance goes. When you start getting your own shift points and other parameters burnt that you specify, then you have a custom chip.
