Exclamation Abs

My ABS light has been on for sometime now, yesterday I decided to stop into the dealership I work at part time to use their computer to read the codes and I got two codes:

1) C1230 - RA Wheel Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure

2) C1229 - RA Wheel Speed Sensor Coherency Fault

I looked up the codes in my Chilton's manual. I was wondering if I replaced the rear axle wheel speed sensor ($9.99 at Car Quest) would that fix the problem?

Yup - or just clean them. they get loaded up with metalic flakes. Which also is a good indicator you should change the diff fluid.

Did you disconnect the battery to clear the codes out? If the ABS light is out, the code might have been left in memory.

I didnt disconnect the battery, but I did use the computer at work to clear the codes out of the abs computer, the C1229 cleared out but the C1230 code stayed on. I beleave I should change the diff oil seems how it smelt brunt and the is over a 140K miles on the explorer.

Try that but you may need a completely new sensor too.

I did replaced the sensor already, that cleared the C1229 code. The C1230 code is still there. I'll try replacing the diff oil and see what happenes.

Chk the connection sometimes the pins get corosion on them or push out and nolonger make contact.
We have also seen the abs module go bad.Do a test unplug the sensor and see if the 1229 comes back.
