I've been tinkering on and off for a while now and can't seem to diagnose why my truck just cuts out. The engine runs perfectly until a time where it just cuts out. Not a sputtering death mind you (that's why I assume it's electrical). I've replaced the coil, ignition, coil-to-distributor wire and checked all the wire connections for shorts. Nothing. Doesn't matter how long the engines' been running or how warm/cold it is. All the grounds seem to be clean (I replaced a lot of parts recently) I'm going to inspect the ignition switch closer even though it was replaced just over a year ago. It's a 73 460. Any ideas?

If it has the regulator on the pass. side fender (3" or so squarish box with 3 or 4 wires on a flat plug into it around the starter seloniod), might be worth a shot, not that expensive, 10-12 bucks last time I got one and if not, you always have it for a spare. These have been known to do funny things when going bad, but may come back and be just fine after sitting a while. When one went on me, it would only idle at 3-400 rpms and wouldn't take any kind of pedal. Shut it off, restart, run just fine, lived with this for 3 months while it got worse, before I got to the point that this was all that was left to change, and it worked! Of course didn't have these great boards to help out back then! Hope it's this simple!
I agree with the volt reg box, mine did the same thing and it was a bad box. Sometimes a ground will cut in and out because of rust. If not, when it dies, check for 12volts at the ign, fuse box etc...
I'll have to check the box. Thanks for the ideas. The grounds didn't seem to be the problem a couple days ago, but I might have skipped one. Have to double check'm too.
Thanks again,

Mine has just died a couple of times like that, both times when I had been sitting still and started to move. After a minute or two of trying, it would crank and run just fine.:-X23
