Ok i want to build stacks for my truck, im following the pictures on the black cloud site, but my 6.9 only has 2 1/2 in. ID exhaust, how should i connect the 4 inch y pipe to the exhaust pipe???? reducer cones?? and does neone with a 6.9 have stacks?? how do they sound?? good?? bad??? gimme some feedback!!!
well i have a 7.3 w/ a 6in single stack what i did is go from my 3in to a ''muffler''(that was to keep the cops and parents happy) to a 3.5in elbow and then took a flat piece of steel cut a 5in dia circle w/ a 3.5 inner cut out and welded it to some 5in pipe and clamped the stack in there w/ a band clamp and if your confused the stack is 5in at the bottom and then goes right away to 6 lol it sounds awsome even tho theres no turbo which would be even better well i hope that helps
i have a 7.3 turbo w/ 4" stacks and for the time being the flange at the end of the down pipe is my adapter to go to the 4" pipe i just filled in the spaces with my welder
Go to a muffler shop and cut the pipe under the back of the engine so each manifold pipe dumps into the 4" pipe. That way you will see less back pressure and it will run better. Then at the back of the cab use two 45 degree ells to get the pipe going straight up. Use two 90 degree ells to make a Y pipe with a 4" hole on each end. Run to each side of the bed and use two more 90 degree ells to mount the stacks on.
If you run the pipe back in the standard location and cut a 6" square hole in the bed floor to run the pipe through it works well.
Do put something to block stuff from sliding against the pipes in the bed though, they get HOT while driving.
Mine are only 3" and they are plenty for even a 7.3 turbo motor.
Mine is a dump bed, but it is still the same other than mine are outside the bed rather than inside a stock bed.
I ran true 3" duals up through one hole in the bed together and each side into 5" chrome stacks. You will want mufflers with no turbo and stacks or you will turn into a vegetable in the cab from the constant drone of straight pipes behind your head.
yah i think a turbo is in order, whats the best and most inexpensive one out there???? i know banks has a kit for about 2000, but i dont want all the stuff it comes with can you by the parts seperate or no, cuz i dnt need the exhaust, or the transmission control or all that stuff
