LAST EDITED ON 02-Nov-01 AT 12:50 PM (EST)[p] HI all. I am new to this board. I was just curious on how many rare options are out there for these 1973-1979 Ford trucks. I am aware of a few but would like to know some more.
I guess intermitant wipers would be a rare option as it is something everyone would like to have but not many do from what I have heard. I always thought AC was but ever since coming to this board it seems like alot of guys have it. I heard (or read maybe) of rear window defrost. Never seen it though. I have seen one 78 or 79 with the bed side tool box (right behind the cab on the passenger side, flush with the bed side toward the bottom) I have seen these alot on the mid 70's trucks but only on one of the late 70's. AM/FM radio and factory CB seem rare.
LAST EDITED ON 02-Nov-01 AT 02:35 PM (EST)[p]Well my 79 has intermitten wipers, the bed side tool box, headliner (I think that is standard lariat stuff though), cruise, tilt wheel, a/c, oh yeah and a factory 460 the best option of all.
WOW!! that sounds like a very cool truck you have there! Got any pictures of it? Has anyone else heard of a rear window defroster? That would be pretty cool to have.
I've heard of the rear window defroster. It mentions it in my owners manual. The option I really miss since switching from my '87 Dodge is the delay wipers.
The XLT trim is an option.
1. Tilt wheel.
2. Cruise Control
3. A/C
4. Rear defrost is an option, very unusual, I've only seen the programmer never seen the actual window.
5. Side tool box
6. Dual Tanks
7. Camper Special Option
8. P/S
9. Power Brakes
10. Split Bench Seat
11. Split rear window
12. Two tone paint
13. What was the name of the paint job that looked like an Arizona Sunset. truck was usaully brown with yellow/orange/red mural inset. Seen on broncos more often?
14. What bumper option were there?
15. Was there a wench option?
16. Was there a Rhino Pack Option?
Who knows the good options?

The cab I got for my highboy has int wipers, cruise (no tilt)?, woodgrain and silver dash, a/c, cargo light, fancy door panels, carpet, fancy seat, fancy headliner (compared to the masonite looking thing in my custom cab)
I know where i live the lariat package seems to be pretty rare. I have a 79 F250 4x4 with the Ranger lariat package, its got two tone paint with full trim, tilt wheel, cargo light, A/C, hood lock, int. wipers, sport wheel, carpet, dual tanks, chrome step bumper, trim on front bumper, i put a 429 in this truck and it has a C6, dana 60 front an rear. Everything listed is factory options in this truck except the 429 that i put in. This truck still has its original paint in good shape, its matalic brown and cream in the center.
Other rare factory options i know of are a power side mirror, power windows and door locks, digital am/fm clock radio, lighted mirror on pass side sun visor.
Brenden, and others you can add the delay wipers to your two speed wiper, just by grabbing the parts and installing them. A real piece of cake.

I really disbelieve that these were options. Are you sure that they were not add-ons on the truck you saw?
Did digital radios exist back then?!
I am positive that power windows and locks did not exist as options!
no 73-79 ford trucks came with power windows or locks, Not available until 1980 on F-series, but I know for a fact that a digital radio could have been had in a 1979 F-series due to a 1979 owners manual I read, I have never seen one, nor have I seen the "coveted" am/fm/cb radio
My 77 f-250 custom 4x4 Hi-Boy has the super rare "Radio Delete" option. Just a plastic Ford plate where the radio should be, this makes for a lot of humming and singing to pass the time. Also has a high output heater.
