How rare are the rear window defrost.I found one in a truck in the salvage yard that I got my delay wipers off of.I didn't want to give up my sliding rear window so I did not buy it.I did think it would be great in a super cab truck, especially if it had air.
My 77 f-250 custom 4x4 Hi-Boy has the super rare "Radio Delete" option. Just a plastic Ford plate where the radio should be, this makes for a lot of humming and singing to pass the time. Also has a high output heater.

Yea that is a pretty rare and cool option, not many around anymore everyone took a sawzall to the plastic to cobble a radion in there, I did know a guy who had a 79 F-250 wheel drive model with radio delete, just said "FORD" there is I remember corectly
As far as i know my 79 ranger xlt doesn't have every option but here is what it has:
-Factory 460
-Tilt wheel
-Cruise control
-a/c
-Dual tanks
-power steering
-power brakes
-two tone paint
-wood trim
-the rear bumper on my truck is a checker plated step bumper (not chrome)
-It has the towing package on it.. but i am almost wondering if some of that was put on after? It has trailor brakes and and all the hookups.
It also has a rear matching topper over the bed. It was painted to match the truck was this factory? (I think my maybe grandfather got that done)

All original, but not for long
And always being worked on :-)
The rarest option I've seen is the spare tire carrier in the side of the bed. The front side of the bed has a panel that comes off and it has a spare tire carrier that bolts to the frame and puts the spare in front of the rear tires. The bed on these are different too, they pop in to hold the tire. I've only seen 3 of these.
The other rare option is the PTO off the tranny, I've only seen 1 of these but I'm not sure it's a factory Ford option of aftermarket.
I like the option I got with my Truck when I bought it.
What was it you ask ?
Why, The option to Gloat,of course !
I'm trying to post a copy of the options on the 78 Brochure.
But, I think it's too big.

HI all. I am new to this board. I was just curious on how many rare options are out there for these 1973-1979 Ford trucks. I am aware of a few but would like to know some more.
The spare tire in the side of the bed isn't an "option". That's an F350 Super Camper Special. The rear axle is moved back 7 inches, thus not leaving enough space behind it for the spare. Ford's solution was to put the spare on the side.
The Options I dearly miss on my 77 are Power door locks and windows. Most definatly Miss the Cruise Control.
One feature I'm thinking of "Creating" is a Fibre Optic method of lighting all the important ***** and levers inside the Cab. It's just too dark in there for me.
I have Factory Air, Towing package and Factory 460/C-6 with two mufflers. I'd never seen that! A big muffler and a little "Stator" in the tail pipe.
It's so smooooooothe and quiet and Mucho powerfull.

The rarest option has to be the auto-pilot. My truck definately is equipped with it from the factory. The truck has a mind of its' own, going where ever it feels like on the road. I can't seem to turn it off. Anybody?
My Auto pilot is working good. It got all the way home one night after a hunting trip. I think I slept the whole way.
Yeah, I knew the feature wasn't available on the 73-79's. I was given a 69 Merc "TunaBoat" and tried to move the stuff over. Didn't work, so I think Santa Claws is gonna bring me one from LMC or JC WHitney or...

In all *seriousness*, Ford did offer a power passenger side window option on the '67 models. I believe it may have also been offered in later years. I have yet to see one of these in the flesh.
Anyone that has tried to open the passenger side window while seated in the driver's seat knows why Ford might have offered this as an option! :-)
Can you guys tell me how rare my truck is? It is a '72 f250 camper special has the 390, c6 auto, it's 2wd and has kind of a yellowish paint that is orig.
My 1979 4x4 F150 Supercab has A/c,intermitant wipers, and the rear window defogger.....and it still works!!
My wife has a 1977 144" wheelbase 1-ton with the spare tire in the side of the box.I'll be putting a 12ft camper on that soon which is what the truck was designed for.I've been tring to find a rear gas tank for that truck, which has been impossible..lot less room than a 136" truck. Also her truck is soooooo plain.
Still pretty rare truck....in my travels anyway.
