Unhappy runs cold

On my 2000 f250 the bottom of the radiator where the hose goes in is cheap plastic and I broke it, so the only fix was an entire new radiator. With my luck they didn't have the same one, my radiator was a single core and the new one was a double core. I thought this would be better, but as it turns out now my truck doesn't warm up to the same temperature as before. I thought the next step would be get a hotter thermostat but the hottest one they had at my local store was 195 which is what is suppossed to be the one in there. I wasn't sure if it would hurt my truck running cooler but now that its winter it isn't hot enought to get my heater hot, it gets warm, but not hot. any suggestions?

wow. step back a minute. the thermostat is fine. but did you do the important air bleed of the sytem? so as not to ruin the heads?

not sure, I changed the radiator about 8 months ago. The reason its more of a problem now is cause I am trying to use the heater.

did you bleed the air out of the cooling system? if not you have been causing cavitation of the cylinder heads. how did you refill the system?

Heck I hardly remember, It was a while ago like I said. Wouldn't have broke by now if it was wrong? What is the proper way to fix it?

I would try another 195 thermostat. It should run 195 regardless of what size radiator you have if it is working properly. You could try running it with the cap off for awhile in the driveway to see if it burps any air out of the system, but it sounds like the thermostat isn't closing completely. Have you checked to see if both heater hoses are hot? Could be restricted flow in the heater core or a malfunctioning blend door under the dash.

lx,

i have seem this issue a lot. it is form not removing the air in the system. people try to fill the whole system from the remote tank. to do it right you remove the upper radiator hose then fill from there. then find the heater hose which is connected to the manifold. remove that and burp the air form that line. the water pump can not move air so this is important to do.

I changed my anti-freeze in my 2001 by filling the remote tank. You can't fill it too fast or the air won't escape. The remote tank is the highest point, so air will rise to the top. I fill it to the cold fill, leave the cap off. Start the truck, let it idle until the thermostat opens at which time it will suck most of the coolant out of the tank, slowly fill it back to the cold fill line. leave it idling for about 20 minutes to let any air bubbles escape. Then I shut it off and allow it to cool, then top off the coolant to the cold fill line and all is well.

update. I did change out the thermostat and now it runs normal. the temp gets up to a good range and stays there. When I took out the old one I inspected it and it open and closed just fine, probably just worn out and doesnt shut quick enough. Thanks for all your help.
