Question Spark Plugs

03 Ranger Edge. 6cly. (code V) FFV, 5 speed Auto, 2WD.
Owners manual sez use AGSF-22PP for this engine. Is this the correct plug or only because you might use E85? A reg non V engine uses a -32PP.

I have also heard that the correct plug is AGSF12FMF6. This is 1 heat range cooler than the -22PP and 2 heat ranges colder than the -32PP. Any inputs on which would work best in my truck?

Use only their suggested plugs and ONLY Motorcraft brand plugs.

I'm running the fine wire 12s in my 3.0 with no problems, it called for 22s.

A lot of good and knowledgeable people (like Ken00) would even recommend a "colder" Motorcraft plug on the 3.0L vulcan, this is one of the ways to help fend off the annoying pinging that it is somewhat prone to.

The Motorcraft FM or "fine wire" series plugs are now the OEM replacements for Fords with the DIS/EDIS ignition systems, they take the place of the PP (double platinum) series plugs.

It appears that I can choose between either the 22FMF6 or the 12FMF6. Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated

Great that you got it, tell us how it runs once you get 'em switched out.

I'm using the 12FMF6s in my 1999 3.0L FFV, and they run fine!

Bob, do you experience any fouling with those colder plugs? My Dad has problems with his 3.0L pinging, especially in warmer weather. I have held off suggesting a colder plug to him simply because I'm concerned about plug fouling.

No problem with fouling at all. Matter of fact, my owner's manual calls out double platinum 12s as the replacement plugs. I tried the double platinum 22s at one time, and had a pinging problem. I pulled them after about 5K miles, and they looked "blistery" an indication they were running too hot. I've since run the double platinum 12s, and now the fine wire 12s, and they run fine.

Would a colder plug help the 2.5L 4-cyl as well? I have a '98 B2500 and I just sea-foamed it but it still pings. I have the fine-wire 32s in mine.
