Was looking at the Owners manual for the 2000 4.0L I just got and it is very specifis about when removing each plug for inspection you put it back in the same cylinder. It says that cylinders 1,2,&3 have a "PG" suffix, and 4,5 & 6 have a "P" suffix. Why is this? Also, I want to replace the plugs and the manual says to use only plugs with the service part number suffix letters "PP". It calls for Motorcraft AGSF-22PP. What other platinum plugs will work? What Bosch Platinum number will work? Thanks Funtwohunt
The plug differences have to do with the nature of the Ford "waste spark ignition" and polarity. See: Spark Plug Tech
Bosch spark plugs are not a good choice for the Ford "waste spark" ignition. Go with the currently recommended Motorcraft (part# SP500) or Autolite (part# APP-103) replacement plugs.
And no, do not use the crappy Bosch. Use the Motorcraft AGSF-22PP or equivalent, or Autolite APP103 or XP103. Do not waste your time and money with Bosch, NGK, Denso, or anything else.
