Duraspark !

Hi there, i have an 84` f-150 with a 300 straight six with a single barrel carb.

i had the EEC(electronic engine control) but when i put my hedder in, some sensors had to come out. So now, i switched it to a Duraspark II system. I changed the carb, ignition coil, distributor, ignition module and i redid all my wiring myself.

Here's my question! I found about 20 links on the internet for a red-white-orange-purpple-green-black color code but...

The colors coming out of my ignition module are

white
orange
purpple
black w/white stripe
black w/green stripe
green

Does anyone have the color code for this???? I've been stuck taking the bus for a week now, and it's getting cold...Can someone help me?

Thanks a lot

It seems to me this is not the proper distributor, standar Duraspark use purple, orange and black

Where the wires come out of the duraspark II module, on 1981.,
  • orange / hooks up to the orange-yellow wire on distributor.
  • Black-Light Green / Hooks up to black-Light green Wire on Distributor
  • purple / hooks up to the Purple-Light blue wire on distributor.
  • Light Green / hooks up to a dark green-yellow wire that leads to the tach test wire on coil and goes to the instrument cluster connector.
  • Red Light blue / hooks to red light blue wire that goes from ignition switch start circut, gearshift newtral switch, (if so equipped) and hooks to the starter solonoid.
  • White Light Blue / goes to white light blue wire that hooks to the run circut on the ignition switch.
That leaves you one wire from the coil.

Red-Light Green / splits into two wires.
  • one hooks to a brown-pink wire that goes to and splices into a red-light green wire in the ignition switch circut.
  • the second goes through a 105-115 ohm resistor, goes to a three way splice (four for guages )
    • one goes to the fuse panel fuse #3 and #2 .
    • Two goes to the ignition switch
    • the third goes to the printed circut in the instrument cluster.
      • and with idiot lights only splices off the third wire and goes to a 500 ohm resistor, wire turns light green red that goes to the voltage regulator, and instrument cluster printed circut..
    • (fourth with guages only, color changes on fourth to Lt Green Red goes to voltage regulator, and the instrument cluster printed circut)
Hope this all helps you out.

Get a section of the wiring harness from a salvage yard and use the proper ford module connectors.

This is one of the reasons I like the Mallory adaptor kits to use in the Original Distributor, no hassle, no fuss. Just replace the Points w/ the Reluctor, then plug it in to the box & Boom you good to go.

hey col.... does mallory make a conversion kit to go from electronic feedback, to duraspark style? he is not trying to update his system, actully is pre dating it.... like alot of us with 84 to 86 trucks do so we can get rid of the junk electronic feedback carbs.

I like to use Duraspark because replacement parts are available anywhere and testing is available at most good parts stores.
